What is mindfulness?

Mindfulness is a powerful tool which helps us to manage whatever isn’t working for us in our life.  It inhibits our identification with negative thought patterns as they arise, and serves as a powerful therapeutic tool to deal with the stress caused by this habitual thinking.

The practice of mindfulness simply means letting go of struggle and attachment so we can rest in a state of equilibrium called 'being here now'. It is a powerful skill, a 'way of being' and a form of meditation where we focus our attention upon our experience from moment to moment, embracing it without judgment. It is only then that we are in a position to act skilfully. The result of practising mindfulness is clarity, focus, wisdom and inner peace.

I offer my clients courses which help them to skilfully navigate through the many challenges that come our way, some of which threaten to overwhelm us.  During these eight-week training sessions held in Canberra, you will:

  • learn how to practice redirecting your attention and noticing what's actually happening in the present moment, rather than reacting to what we think, assume or fear is happening
  • recognise the source of your anxiety and how to manage it more effectively
  • learn to co-exist with unpleasant feelings and still function effectively
  • experience exercises which assist in the development and practice of mindfulness meditation

To get the most from these training courses, you will be asked to commit yourself to a daily practise of mindfulness meditation. I also invite you to join a support group here in Canberra after the course is completed, in order to sustain the benefits of this practice.
